Some motorcycles preserve history. Others take it apart and create something completely new from it. This 1985 BMW K100 Custom began life as one of BMW’s most distinctive machines and has been completely reimagined into a one-of-a-kind retro-futuristic build inspired by the science-fiction machines of the 1980s and ’90s.
This wasn’t a cosmetic makeover. The project was essentially restarted from the ground up, with the motorcycle disassembled and carefully rebuilt around a completely new vision. The engine received a full refinishing treatment, with the cooling fins and BMW lettering painstakingly stripped back to bare metal against the matte-black finish. The wheels, fork lowers, and engine covers were powder-coated, while the frame was cut and the entire rear section redesigned around a handmade seat and integrated modern lighting.
The transformation goes much deeper than what you can see. The electrical system was completely modernized using premium Motogadget components, including the mo.Unit Blue, NFC keyless ignition, Motoscope Pro display, and minimalist turn signals. A YSS rear shock, modern controls, new fuel and fluid lines, updated exhaust, and countless other details bring modern functionality to a machine born four decades ago.
Then there are the details you discover the longer you look. Every nut and bolt was replaced with carefully selected black stainless and titanium-yellow hardware. The radiator cover was specially fabricated in fiberglass to echo the original period design, while dual-sport tires give the finished motorcycle the aggressive stance of something that could have rolled straight out of the Mad Max universe.
Even the silver finish has a story. Silver was the K100’s original registered color, so rather than erase its past completely, the build pays tribute to it—contrasting beautifully against the matte-black engine and gloss-black wheels.
This isn't a motorcycle for someone looking for another K100. It's for the rider who appreciates craftsmanship, imagination, and the enormous amount of work hidden inside a truly custom machine. Walk around it once and you'll notice the design. Look again, and you'll start discovering everything that went into creating it.
